How It Works
The course-of-treatment approach
Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment (melanin) in the hair follicle, heating and damaging it enough that it stops producing new hair. Because hair grows in cycles and only actively-growing hairs respond, you need multiple sessions to catch all the follicles across their phases.
Typical course: 6 to 8 sessions, 4 to 6 weeks apart. Coarser, darker areas (underarms, bikini) often respond fastest. Finer leg and arm hair may need more sessions.
Before each session: shave the area 24 hours before (not the day of), avoid sun and tanning 4 weeks prior, no waxing or plucking between sessions.
After: mild redness for an hour or two. Avoid sun, hot showers and exercise for 24 hours. SPF is essential.
